Stem Cell Therapy For Hips
STEM CELL THERAPY FOR HIPS DESCRIPTION
Stem cell hip injections can help repair damage to the hip joint using your body’s own healing factors. Stem cell hip repair utilizes mesenchymal stem cells to alleviate hip pain and improve range of motion. These stem cells are taken from adipose tissue (the layer of fat just below your skin) and combined with platelet rich plasma from a blood sample; this mixture of stem cells and PRP is then injected into the treatment area to help repair damage. Unlike traditional hip replacement surgery, which removes the natural hip joint and replaces it with an artificial prosthesis, stem cell therapy is designed to help regenerate the natural hip joint. Patients who are bothered by chronic hip pain, lack of mobility, or degenerative disorders of the hip may be candidates for stem cell hip injections.
STEM CELL THERAPY FOR HIPS PROCEDURE
Stem cell hip repair is a minimally invasive procedure that combines stem cell therapy and platelet rich plasma treatment. Local anesthesia is utilized during your procedure. First, mesenchymal stem cells are harvested from your body’s adipose tissue (natural fat) through liposuction. Small incisions are made in the skin and tiny cannulas are inserted to extract stem cell rich-fat from a donor area (typically the abdomen or thighs). Your mesenchymal stem cells are then spun through a centrifuge, isolated, and purified. These stem cells are combined with a sample of platelet rich plasma taken from your blood to form a mixture. During the final part of your procedure, the mixture of stem cells and PRP is injected into the hip area to aid in healing and joint regeneration.
Patients can expect mild bruising or swelling to occur around the donor area, as well as the hip area; these effects should subside within days of your stem cell treatment. You can typically resume most of your daily activities within a week of undergoing stem cell therapy. Rigorous physical activities should be avoided for a few weeks to allow for optimal healing. Light hip stretches are recommended to help promote mobility following your stem cell hip injection.
WHAT TYPE OF STEM CELLS WILL BE USED FOR MY PROCEDURE?
We use stem cells taken from adipose tissue (known as fat). It has been scientifically proven that a greater abundance of stem cells comes from adipose tissue than from bone marrow and blood. We do not use any pre-packaged or pre-processed stem cells or growth factors. By definition, stem cell treatments are indicative of a patient’s own tissue.
